2022 02 08 Board Meeting Notes
This meeting was focused primarily on editing the white paper for METS 2 and on preparing for an iPRES submission. The final deadline is March 8th for short paper submission; there will be no extensions this time.
Most work from last time is done / filled in. Some proofreading & editing is complete.
Consistency for formatting: Use "METS 1" and "METS 2" in short. In the past, the METS version was not generally referenced; so long as we make a decision & stick to it it should be fine.
We decided to put the motivation for METS2 before the status of METS1. We will include some general overview of why METS is in use after 20 years in the iPRES paper, but don't need that in the white paper.
For references: footnotes - text with links underneath for web page version?
We mention LOCREF twice in the schema changes, but that is not necessarily a problem.
For the short paper for iPRES we can edit down the list of attributes & collapse for the short paper.
We need to make sure to point out the consistency between fileSec
and mdSec
in METS 2. We discussed why we did not allow nested fileGrp
or mdGrp
and tried to recall why we allowed either fileGrp
or file
under fileSec
and likewise for mdGrp
/ md
/ mdSec
, but for now we will go forward with the draft schema as it is.
For fileSec
and mdSec
examples we should show an example with a transformation from METS 1 that preserves as much of the METS 1 semantics as possible along with a simplified option without fileGrp
/ mdGrp
as is possible in METS 2.
The file group examples should be simplified for the white paper, but it will be valuable to keep the full examples to show in other documentation.
Discussed the reason for removing nested fileGrp
: that structural information should instead be in structMap
.
Discussed the reason for making structMap
optional.
Aaron will start drafting something for the short paper with a goal of circulating this for comment by Monday, February 14th.
