Sending a image from a path with Esperanto in it crashes Signal renderer

• I am using Signal-Desktop as provided by the Signal team, not a 3rd-party package.

Overall summary

If I go to paste a image from a path that has Esperanto character in it (Elŝutoj specifically), Signal crashes with an issue involving the render process.

Steps to reproduce

1. Go to a chat
2. Click the attachment icon
3. Find a image from a path with Esperanto in it (Elŝutoj)
4. Upload

Expected result

File is inserted in message to friend

Are you able to reproduce this every time?

Could you enable crash reports by launching the app from the CLI using the --enable-crash-reports flag? Then reproduce the crash and send us a new debuglog?

Thank you for your response! I can reproduce this issue reliably without the crash handler argument. Interestingly, when I start Signal using dmenu using dwm, and try this, it crashes. But if I launch it through a method where my text editor (acme) kicks it off and it runs, it works! However, if I kick Signal off from within a script that applies the crash reports argument, it doesn't crash either! Totally bizarre. I even tried using another pty and then kicking it off there, with X11 display environment variable set, though it didn't crash. I was also unable to crash it after kicking it off inside my terminal emulator (st). Could you advise if there's anything I should be doing? @jamiebuilds-signal

Hm, I'm not sure. But you could try running the beta version of the app which always has crash reports enabled:
