Description
Using a supported version?
- I have searched searched open and closed issues for duplicates.
- I am using Signal-Desktop as provided by the Signal team, not a 3rd-party package.
Overall summary
If you want to reply with a text as a reaction to a story, and if then you want to add an emoji to this text and accidentally select an emoji at the top (from the emoji-only-reaction-picker): Then this emoji is immediately sent as a reaction and the entire text is unintentionally deleted.
This happens all the time to many users (even to me still sometimes), because I often get messages from readers of my stories who apologise that they only sent an emoji and unfortunately their painstakingly written text was deleted. They then often rewrite the text again in a shortened form and send it to me.
The reaction/comment-to-the-story-text should not be deleted! Perhaps the emoji-only reaction should even be completely hidden so that this cannot happen.
This happened on Android but was fixed, but still happens on Desktop. I don’t know about iOS, but I suppose it is the same.
Steps to reproduce
- Open a story.
- Click on respond.
- Start writing a long answer.
- Now select accidentally an emoji from the emojis above the answer text.
Expected result
The text is preserved, the emoji send alone.
Actual result
The painstakingly written text is gone!!!!!!!!!! Lost!
