Description
Using a supported version?
- I have searched searched open and closed issues for duplicates.
- I am using Signal-Desktop as provided by the Signal team, not a 3rd-party package.
Overall summary
Signal Desktop currently does not support sending vertical (portrait oriented) video.
Even when using a virtual camera (e.g., OBS) to output a vertically formatted video feed, Signal transmits the video as landscape.
As a result, mobile users see the video in a horizontal layout with black bars above and below, making it unsuitable for natural viewing on vertically held smartphones.
Steps to reproduce
1.Open Signal Desktop on Windows.
2.Start a video call with a mobile user.
3.Attempt to send a vertically formatted video using a virtual camera(e.g., OBS).
4.Observe the video display on the mobile side.
Expected result
The mobile app displays the incoming video in full-screen portrait mode, matching the sender's intended vertical layout.
Actual result
The mobile app shows the video feed in a landscape-oriented frame, with black bars above and below when the phone is held vertically. The video does not fill the screen and appears letterboxed, even if the original feed was vertically formatted using a virtual camera such as OBS.
