VirtualMic not receiving any signal?

Hi there,

I'm running Arch with Plasma KDE and I can't seem to get the VirtualMic to receive any signal.

Murmur starts, Mumble (desktop client) connects, and my phone (Android running Plumble - tested both the gray and the light blue version on the Play Store) connects without issues.

When playing around with the Plasma KDE settings, and also pavucontrol, I've found that my computer can output the mic stream from my phone to the laptop speakers. I guess this means that the computer itself is receiving the signals correctly at least.

However, when I go to record in audacity as a test, I cannot get any recording down. When I inspect the inputs tab in pavucontrol, the little "sound amplitude" bar that usually jumps up and down in response to signals is always at a flat line. My laptop in-built microphone, on the other hand, does respond.

Does anyone have any tips or pointers to help? :)

Have you been able to figure out any solution to this?

In the mentioned issue I had the same problem. Now suddenly it works initially in those programs, but it stops working after some time, and it's annoying for both me and others.

Hey @siddhpant, I haven't tested this recently as I've been using an external usb microphone now. Would be happy to try this out again if there's been an update to the code (doesn't look like there's been a new commit since I posted this issue), or if there's something you or someone else could suggest I tweak.

Could you try backing up alsa settings/config prior to running this script in a file, and then restoring it after setting up the mic?

I faced the scenario I mentioned earlier today on Google Meet, so I was looking for solutions and found this old issue. Thought maybe there is a chance you found a solution, so I replied again...

I just started having this problem myself, months after you. I though perhaps the version of pulseaudio might be at fault, but according to this site the update happened months ago, not a week ago.

I have also tried removing the .mic_over_Mumble folder and rerconfiguring mumble, remve the pulse configuration, but still the same.

As I am also on KDE, it might be something with that? @siddhpant are you on KDE as well?

@siddhpant Maybe pulseaudio could be the fault? I have pulseaudio 13.99.1.
I did try with version 15 and no luck either.

@RaitaroH I have pulseaudio 14.2, but the issue predates the release so it isn't about new versions introducing a bug. The bug probably exists since long and isn't fixed, if there is a problem with pulseaudio.
