Was there a strong reason to move it up? Mostly because 1.22 is still supported (so at least for CI would be good to verify)

I think #4471 is not meant for a backport. I added it to main because by the time we'll release 1.3 1.23 will probably be the oldest supported version. It is not needed in release-1.2 branch -- we try to be conservative here, and most CI jobs use both supported Go versions anyway.
