Welcome to the MITE Standard Organization page!
MITE (Minimum Information about a Tailoring Enzyme) is a community-driven database for the characteriation of tailoring enzymes. These enzymes play important roles in the biosynthesis of secondary or specialized metabolites, naturally occuring molecules with strong biological activities, such as antibiotic properties. MITE summarizes experimental data on the reactions and substrate specificities of these tailoring enzymes in both human- and machine-readable form, using the reaction SMARTS chemical transformation language. THe MITE database can be used as knowledgebase, as parts catalog for synthetic biology, or for machine learning applications.
