Hi @david-mcdonagh. Thanks for your PR.

I'm waiting for a kubernetes-sigs member to verify that this patch is reasonable to test. If it is, they should reply with /ok-to-test on its own line. Until that is done, I will not automatically test new commits in this PR, but the usual testing commands by org members will still work. Regular contributors should join the org to skip this step.

Once the patch is verified, the new status will be reflected by the ok-to-test label.

I understand the commands that are listed here.

We should move the shouldPropagateSource to good common location. Can you also please add some unit tests (either in internal/object or internal/validators, or both) to test the new functionality? Also, can you please add a fuller description of the commit? E.g. check out #36. At a minimum, you should link to the case that will be closed by this PR. Thanks!

The code is not actually checking for this, but it should. I think you're trying to duplicate this? Maybe you can move that function to internal/object so that it can be called from here?
