- based on v5.6.2
- Make
Spoof app version
patch enabled by default - Add
Freeze layout updates
patch- Freeze the current server-side layout by hook the hot config and cold config.
- Add
Add missing resources
patch- Adds missing resources to prevent crashes in 17.34.36. Currently, only a few resources are supported. Also, replace missing drawables with a transparent image to prevent crashes.
This update gives 17.34.36 a little extra life.
Usually, "Spoof app version" is not useful because spoofing to 19.xx will cause a blank layout issue.
However, thankfully, the old server-side layout for 17.34.36 is still being served from YouTube's servers.
This is our hope.
"Fetching 17.34.36 layouts -> freezing layout updates -> spoofing app version to 19.01.34" is a only way to use 17.34.36 as of today.
Read the current situation at README
When you patch this version, make sure to enable these three patches: Spoof app version
, Freeze layout updates
, Add missing resources
!
Instructions
- If you already tried Spoof app version and your app keeps crashing, uninstall the app.
- Patch YouTube and install
- Open the app and wait 10 seconds. This is needed to fetch 17.34.36 version of server-side layouts. (You may see the 10 second restart dialog.)
- Restart RVX
- Go to RVX settings
- Open [π !!!App version spoofing related!!!] settings
- Turn on "Spoof app version" and "Freeze layout updates" (Don't restart until you enable both settings. Cancel the restart prompt when you turn on "Spoof app version".)
- Enjoy!
Known issues
Spoofing to 19.01 causes many issues.
- Opening video descriptions causes a crash if it contains links to YouTube URL.
- Shorts player doesn't show title and channel.
- Shorts toolbar buttons are blank. Pressing top right corner will open the menu.
- etc...
Therefore, I would not recommend continuing to use 17.34.36.
This patch is highly experimental.
17.34.36 is dying. Everyone should give up on using 17.34.36 and use alternative methods for Android 6-7.
We don't know how long this method will work.
If this no longer works, development will be discontinued and the repository will be archived.
Tips
When YouTube app keeps crashing and you can't open RVX settings, open App Info -> Notifications -> Open in-app settings.
This is useful in emergencies. You can change or export settings by this way.
p.s.
I'm sorry for the long wait.
This was supposed to be completed sooner, but due to my busy schedule and lack of motivation to maintaining 17.34.36, it's taken me this long.
Every day I couldn't to release updates, I was saddened by the fact that you'll be unable to use the YouTube app on older devices for longer periods of time.
I wish I could have had a chunk of time.
