Description
π© [COMMUNITY PROPOSAL] β HIGHEST PRIORITY: COLD STORAGE SUPPORT FOR KADENA (LEDGER, TREZOR, KEYSTONE)
To Kadena Foundation, KadenaEco, and the Kadena development team,
We, the Kadena community β long-term holders, developers, and ecosystem supporters β would like to present a critical and actionable proposal that addresses a longstanding pain point which directly affects adoption, user confidence, and capital inflow into the Kadena ecosystem.
Despite Kadena's outstanding technical design (Chainweb, Pact, scalable PoW), there is still no support for KDA on major hardware wallets like Ledger, Trezor, or Keystone.
This leads to serious consequences:
Long-term holders cannot safely store KDA offline.
Institutional and large investors cannot allocate capital securely.
Kadena appears less mature than peer Layer-1s such as Solana, Cosmos, or Polkadot.
This discourages long-term holding and weakens user confidence in the network.
π Key Causes (and solvable):
Chainweb and Pactβs custom architecture lack a readily available signer package for integration.
No official team or DAO initiative has prioritized or funded a Ledger integration.
Technical documentation on transaction structures, signing process, derivation paths, etc., remains unpublished or unclear.
Ledger/Trezor integrations require substantial dev effort, audit compliance, and ongoing maintenance β usually needing clear incentives or foundation-led coordination.
β
Community Proposal
We strongly urge the Foundation or DAO to:
Fund a public bounty or grant ($25,000β$50,000) for a Ledger (or Trezor) app supporting Kadena, compliant with official SDK and UX standards.
Publish clear technical specifications for developers:
Pact transaction structure (for signing).
Chain ID handling in multi-chain signing.
Derivation paths and account standards (BIP32).
Chainweaver-compatible offline signing flows.
Prioritize an air-gapped Chainweaver signing method using external hardware wallets (Ledger, Keystone, etc.) as a transitional solution.
Coordinate a joint technical effort between Kadena core devs and open-source Ledger developers (e.g., Zondax or community contributors).
π§ Why this is critical now
Market trust is fragile β this is a clear signal of long-term commitment to security and professionalism.
Kadena has outstanding technology but low perceived maturity β this fixes one of the most visible gaps.
It does not require any protocol changes β just action and organization.
π€ Community is ready to help
We can:
Review and contribute to signing specs.
Connect with Ledger-compatible developers.
Support communications, translations, and feedback for proposal drafting and refinement.
We appreciate all the work that has been done β but this proposal represents what the community needs most right now. Please prioritize cold storage access so Kadena can fully live up to its promise as a secure, scalable, and future-proof Layer-1 blockchain.
Respectfully,Kadena Community Supporter
