Found in HEAD commit: 788a7843c417e24f96b55aae33d5cce63354f4d9
Found in base branch: master
Reachability Analysis
This vulnerability is potentially reachable
com.google.protobuf.DescriptorProtos$MethodDescriptorProto$Builder (Application)
-> com.google.protobuf.DescriptorProtos$ServiceDescriptorProto$Builder (Extension)
-> com.google.protobuf.DescriptorProtos$ServiceDescriptorProto (Extension)
-> com.salesforce.jprotoc.ProtoTypeMap (Extension)
-> ❌ com.efenglu.jprotoc.JProtoc (Vulnerable Component)
Vulnerability Details
Any project that parses untrusted Protocol Buffers data containing an arbitrary number of nested groups / series of SGROUP tags can corrupted by exceeding the stack limit i.e. StackOverflow. Parsing nested groups as unknown fields with DiscardUnknownFieldsParser or Java Protobuf Lite parser, or against Protobuf map fields, creates unbounded recursions that can be abused by an attacker.

Vulnerability Details
A parsing issue similar to CVE-2022-3171, but with textformat in protobuf-java core and lite versions prior to 3.21.7, 3.20.3, 3.19.6 and 3.16.3 can lead to a denial of service attack. Inputs containing multiple instances of non-repeated embedded messages with repeated or unknown fields causes objects to be converted back-n-forth between mutable and immutable forms, resulting in potentially long garbage collection pauses. We recommend updating to the versions mentioned above.

com.google.protobuf.UnknownFieldSet (Application)
-> com.google.type.Money (Extension)
-> ❌ com.efenglu.jprotoc.example.EmployeeTransformer (Vulnerable Component)
Vulnerability Details
An issue in protobuf-java allowed the interleaving of com.google.protobuf.UnknownFieldSet fields in such a way that would be processed out of order. A small malicious payload can occupy the parser for several minutes by creating large numbers of short-lived objects that cause frequent, repeated pauses. We recommend upgrading libraries beyond the vulnerable versions.

Vulnerability Details
Use of Java's default temporary directory for file creation in "FileBackedOutputStream" in Google Guava versions 1.0 to 31.1 on Unix systems and Android Ice Cream Sandwich allows other users and apps on the machine with access to the default Java temporary directory to be able to access the files created by the class.
Even though the security vulnerability is fixed in version 32.0.0, we recommend using version 32.0.1 as version 32.0.0 breaks some functionality under Windows. This vulnerability is potentially reachable
com.efenglu.jprotoc.JProtoc (Application)
-> com.salesforce.jprotoc.ProtocPlugin (Extension)
-> ❌ com.google.common.io.Files (Vulnerable Component)
Vulnerability Details
A temp directory creation vulnerability exists in all versions of Guava, allowing an attacker with access to the machine to potentially access data in a temporary directory created by the Guava API com.google.common.io.Files.createTempDir(). By default, on unix-like systems, the created directory is world-readable (readable by an attacker with access to the system). The method in question has been marked @deprecated in versions 30.0 and later and should not be used. For Android developers, we recommend choosing a temporary directory API provided by Android, such as context.getCacheDir(). For other Java developers, we recommend migrating to the Java 7 API java.nio.file.Files.createTempDirectory() which explicitly configures permissions of 700, or configuring the Java runtime's java.io.tmpdir system property to point to a location whose permissions are appropriately configured.
