Hi guys, I'm new here.

Google got me here while searching for "incompatible types: inference variable ReqT has incompatible equality constraints" .

I also use gRPC , on a work project , on one server it stopped compiling for no reason , on other two servers the compiling was fine as usual .

I managed to make it work by running "mvn -e clean install" ( never gives error ) , instead of "mvn clean install" ( always gives error ) .

The erronaneus server has :
java -version
openjdk version "11.0.15" 2022-04-19 LTS
OpenJDK Runtime Environment 18.9 (build 11.0.15+10-LTS)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM 18.9 (build 11.0.15+10-LTS, mixed mode, sharing)

while the working server has
java -version
openjdk version "11.0.10" 2021-01-19 LTS
OpenJDK Runtime Environment 18.9 (build 11.0.10+9-LTS)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM 18.9 (build 11.0.10+9-LTS, mixed mode, sharing)

From my reasearch it might be related to an open Jdk bug

https://bugs.openjdk.org/browse/JDK-8288590 ( not the exact issue here but may be related ) - this one they say is fixed in JDK 24

or https://bugs.openjdk.org/browse/JDK-8210121 ( the exact issue here ) - closed as not reproductible

My take is maven compiler plugin ( 3.8.1 in my case ) adds some experimental params ( described in openjdk bugtracker page above ) to the javac command, which differ in case of -e or -X options .
