incompatibility with Adafruit_SSD1306.h?

Can anyone think of a reason why introducing
#include <usbh_midi.h>
#include <usbhub.h>
in a sketch with an OLED display produces garbled images on the display?
the oled runs on I2C on the standard XIAO/QT Py pins of the SAMD21.
