Unable to restore session and forced to log out to continue using Element #29024

Closed as duplicate of#27361

Description

@bjherbison

Steps to reproduce

  1. Use Element in a browser profile for months. (Over many system and browser restarts and upgrades.)
  2. Visit https://chat.mozilla.org/ .
  3. Visit https://chat.mozilla.org/ .

Additional problems: I can't give you the application version because of the bad state of the interface. You should put the version in the source code of the web page so View Source can retrieve it. But you manage chat.mozilla.org so you should be able to get the version.

Outcome

What did you expect?

The web interface to load in steps 2 and 3.

What happened instead?

In step 2 the browser tab was blank. (View source showed some code -- I have no idea how it compares to the previous source that worked.)

In step 3 I got this message:

Unable to restore session

We encountered an error trying to restore your previous session.

If you have previously used a more recent version of Element, your session may be incompatible with this version. Close this window and return to the more recent version.

Clearing your browser's storage may fix the problem, but will sign you out and cause any encrypted chat history to become unreadable.
