Finding the cause of a Spaces notification badge is difficult

Steps to reproduce

Receive a notification for something that occurred in a space, e.g. a mention. A notification badge appears on the space.

Try to click on the number directly - you can't, because when you mouseover, it disappears and shows the context menu underneath

Click on the name of the space. You're not taken to the originating room; probably just the previous open room in the space. Work out that the originating message is in a room you need to scroll down to

Click on that number, and find your message.

What happened?

I went on a long journey to clear a badge. If I was new to element, I may have never realised how to follow this thread down and find the originating message.

What did you expect?

You should be able to jump to the originating message in one click, or similar direct mechanism

Ah, you can if the panel is collapsed. It vanishing on mouse-over is preventing you when expanded.

Clicking this badge (with that space selected) would take you to the first room with a notif

This needs design input given the design has the notification badge and context menu in the same place so cannot coexist.

@t3chguy Can we have the notification symbol location and function the same regardless of whether the space panel is expanded or collapsed?

Sure, I think the current design was picked to match the room list where it is only on the icon when minimized

Great context. If it's not too much work, let's go ahead and keep the badge on the icon when the space panel is expanded.

I'll create an issue as an enhancement for us to consider the badges on Spaces Panel and Room panel while we're looking at the IA work :)
