Outreachy round 30

As Wikimedia will unfortunately not be participating in GSoC 2025, we will be putting our project forward for consideration for Outreachy round 30 instead. Please rest assured that we have already started the process of project submission (and according to the wiki, we appear to be on schedule!).

@nicolas-raoul and I will be mentoring, if our project is approved by org admins. When the projects are finalized (14 March I believe), we will post the Phabricator task link here if approved. In the meantime, you can read up on eligibility criteria at https://www.outreachy.org/ .

Apologies to anyone who missed out, and thank you all for your patience. We were caught unaware by the GSoC decline as well, and we are doing what we can within this tight timeline.

To perform a fix, please read the "Developers" section of our documentation, please note especially the issue search, which will allow you to focus on relevant issues. Thank you! :-)

Please if you could provide a timeline of the work we plan to accomplish on the project and what tasks I have to finish at each step. Also time commitments I have to do during the Outreachy internship round.

Answer:

• The list of tasks can be seen at the bottom of this page (you need to log in): https://www.outreachy.org/outreachy-june-2025-internship-cohort/communities/wikimedia/#improve-the-nearby-feature-of-the-wikimedia-common
  • The before-last task has been solved so now the list contains 9 tasks.
• Time commitments are described in Outreachy: https://www.outreachy.org/docs/internship/#time-commitment
• I suggest you split the time equally between the tasks, and leave 2 weeks at the end for testing and as a security buffer.

Hi folks,

I received an email from the Outreachy organizers stating that:

[...] they’ll be able to make contributions until April 22nd

So, it seems that the deadline for contributions for our project is now 22 April. :) Please be aware that you must have submitted your final application by this date in order to be considered.

According to Outreachy policy, we aren't supposed to create timelines for applicants, and you should do it independently.

1. We now advise applicants to create project timelines independently.

2. Timelines should include bi-weekly milestones for project updates and feedback.

3. Applicants are no longer directed to work with their mentors to create a project timeline.

However, if you have any specific questions or encounter any problems with your application, please feel free to contact us or ask on this issue.
