Multipass not working on Win11 24H2

Can't launch Multipass via Prompt, nor GUI.
When launching "Multipass find/launch" I get output "Cannot connect to Multipass socket".
Launching GUI results in "Waiting for daemon" in a loop.

• Install logs report Virtualbox as default driver (I use VB for other Linux distros and my Win11 is Home version)
• Wi-fi network is set as private
• Logs from USER/Appdata/Roaming/com.canonical/Multipass GUI.txt report "Remote computer refused to connect" for each attempt to run program from Prompt or Shell.
• My Win account is Administrator, although Multipass installer is .msi package, therefore ain't any "Run as administrator" option when right-clicking on it.

I don't feel safe turning off Win Defender or Firewall and I've read that adding multipass .exe files to allowed apps isn't exactly working.

Hi @arzak117, sorry that you're experiencing this issue.

I'm able to reproduce the problem. It seems like the Multipass daemon service is not being started after the installation. To confirm that it's the case for you as well, please follow the instructions below:

• Open an elevated PowerShell prompt: Win + X -> Terminal (Admin)
• Type Get-Service Multipass'. It should list the Multipass service and Statusshould beStopped`.
• To start, type Start-Service Multipass
• Re-check the service status with Get-Service Multipass in order to ensure it's now working.
• The GUI and the CLI should be able to function now.

Additionally, please bear in mind that Multipass won't install VirtualBox for you, and you should install the it if you haven't done it yet. Otherwise, the GUI will allow you to launch a VM, but it will fail to start with an error like: Could not generate a new UUID: Process failed to start: The system cannot find the file specified.
