The original guide used /etc/systemd/resolved.conf updates followed by a reboot. However, in Amazon Linux 2 (AL2), systemd-resolved is either not present or disabled by default in newer AMIs.
I inserted the Private EC2's IPs as nameservers into /etc/resolv.conf and did dig. No reboot required.
