Evaluate PodPreset for configurability

I'd like to keep this issue open to track cases where we could benefit from https://v1-11.docs.kubernetes.io/docs/tasks/inject-data-application/podpreset/ for configurability. For example the prometheus exporter currently requires an env that is set by default combined with a patch that is optional.
