WinMerge 2.16.48 - Silent/Unattended Installation not working

Silent/Unattended Installation of WinMerge 2.16.48 is not working. According to the setup log it hangs forever at "Created temporary directory"
Created temporary directory: C:\Windows\TEMP\is-PDOK2.tmp (Folder is different at every new try)

Parameters used: /VERYSILENT /SP- /NORESTART
i also tried adding /SUPPRESSMSGBOXES but this does not help.

No problem with interactive install of WinMerge 2.16.48
Also no problem with silent install of WinMerge 2.16.46

So far, I have not been able to reproduce this issue.
When I try to install, the temporary directory is created under the user's TEMP folder, not under C:\Windows\TEMP, like this:

Created temporary directory: C:\Users\sawan\AppData\Local\Temp\is-K7NHR.tmp

Are you trying to deploy WinMerge using software like System Center Configuration Manager?
(Unfortunately, I do not have much expertise with such software, so it might be difficult for me to help if that is the case.)

Also, could you let me know which OS you used and the name of the installer you ran?

Hi. Its Windows 10 22H2
I am installing with a software tool, yes. It is installing the setup as localsystem context so i guess this is why it is creating the temp folder in C:\Windows\Temp
But the same thing has no problem with 2.16.46 and previous versions. So something must have been changed in the installer/setup with the new release 48.

Hello. I am always using the x64 Setup. In this Case the WinMerge-2.16.48-x64-Setup.exe

I do have the same issue. My windows is a german version and the installer get the security group nt-autorität\system if I run under system account. The installer can't handle the "ä" and run into an error.
Which language version do other people have? Same issue with a local vocal?

I created an installer that reverts the changes made to the installer in version 2.16.47 beta.
Could you please try using the installer below?

How did you install WinMerge?
Did you simply run the installer by double-clicking it, or did you install it via software like SCCM?

I did it both, silent and start the exe without any parameter from a cmd running in system account. Always getting the error. The WinMerge-2.16.48.0-x64-ForSilentInstallTest-Setup.exe is running smooth, no error.

I can confirm that the test setup works with silent installation!

I decided to test the normal setup again and now i am receiving the same error as rugu66 mentioned:
Fatal exception during installation process (Exception):
Runtime Error (at 15:227):
Could not retrieve the SID for user: nt-autorit„t\system.
Rolling back changes.

So it looks like it really has something to do with the language of the OS. My Windows is en-us but with german language pack. and german seems the problem in the new version 48 setup. it cannot identify in the name nt-autorität the special character ä it seems.
