Format selection

It would be nice to have a option to format of selection with an arbitrary formatter. For instance, I have a lot of python/node code with sql embedded in strings. I would like to be able to select this sql code, ctrl+shift+P, select a "Format using sqlfmt", and have only the selection formatted through stdin/out. Is that something that the current implementation could support?

I know this repo hasn't been touched in 16 months, but bumping this FWIW :)
