What Does This PR Do

Remaps the science departments layout and the surrounding maintainence semi-radically.

Why It's Good For The Game

  • Makes maintainence less crampt
  • Makes robotics not need to run around the department to get in and out
  • Makes RND not need to run around Genetics to get in and out
  • Gives genetics seperate realestate next to botany
  • Makes going to toxins nolonger a workplace hazard
  • Breaks up the hall which was longer than the length of the captains office to engineering into 4 halls.
  • Makes xenobiologys hall a proper hall
  • Spaghetti

Looks very nice!

Some things to consider:

  • Perhaps include a corpse delivery chute for robotics, there's space in the lower left corner for one.
  • Perhaps remove the wall-mounted fuel tank. There's already 2 more of those in robotics proper, it's got the capacity to go up like a movie scene directed by Michael Bay.

Put some paper, a pen, and a desk bell on all the lab desks so that attention can be gotten and paperwork filed.

  • I remember there being a conversation about wanting to remove the glass enclosures from the upload terminals.

To the RD's office, add a guide to faxes by the fax machine, and a book on command SOP.

One thing to note about the glass floors is that solar flares DO fry anyone that can see them. Almost all of science is exposed to solar flares because of this.

Robotics exploding is so SS13, but I'll remove the tank outside the surgery room. The welding tank in the operating room is so the roboticist does not need to leave the operating room to refill their welders, and the other two rooms have one for that purpose aswell.

Yeah, I wondered about this; the Cyberiad has windoors on their consoles so I presumed it was being made as a standard or something. Didn't think to ask about it.

The Research Director does not have a longrange fax machine. None of the other heads have a guide to faxing I recall either except maybe the represenative. The Research Directors SOP is in science, so there is no reason to give them a command SOP book either.

Short range faxes are still a chance to play around with fax etiquette. Ideally every fax machine would come with them I feel.

The Research Directors SOP is in science, so there is no reason to give them a command SOP book either.

The RD actually has a specific reason to have a command SOP book, there's a section all about AI maintenance which concerns them and also the Chief Engineer (who thus should also have a command SOP book). All the other heads are safe from needing to worry about it, though.

As I have played genetics a fair bit recently, I have noticed a small semi-issue.
Namely, the southern setup is actually so far away from the front desk that you cannot see if someone is there. Genetics already suffers from often being shoved into odd places where they can never be found, on top of generally being even less popular than cybernetic implants.
Additionally, every other map comes with at least some sort of a "pen" in the laboratory or in its backroom. It serves no purpose but it may be worth considering for the sake of consistency?

The majority of our maps use a blue airlock for genetics, even if it's in science

We don't normally put emergency lockers in departments, and even if we did, having two of each seems excessive. You could maybe move the scientist equipment lockers here to free up space in R&D?

The access on this airlock means that really only the RD can use it, which feels like a waste of wall space. Maybe put a countertop between the two departments instead?

Oh one tiny thing, could you add a broadcast TV to the breakroom (/obj/machinery/computer/security/telescreen/entertainment)? I'd like to start seeding those around a bit more and break rooms seem like a appropriate spot for them.

tiny nitpicks:

im not a fan of the atmos piping running under the counter here. could we re-route the distro and scrubber pipes to pull around into maints? (the disposals chute can probably stay that way though)

also for being such a small room genetics should probably jsut have one set of atmos vents/scrubbers. It also helps because that bottom vent ends after a straight section of pipe which should usually be avoided (it helps vent antags navigate and not accidently pop out)

Rnd should probably be given a toolbox since they use it for their research, and most stations have one ready to go for them.

Maintenance has far too many air alarms. This should probably be cut down to just one per maint area. Preferrably, keep them inside of the atmos maint rooms if theres one in that area. The pic below shows all the air alarms in the south east area, but all the new areas have this issue.
