Looking at some sites that go under constant updates and upgrades there's one site such Slackware that keeps one default link for it's downloads, which is pretty straightforward for newbies who want to get the latest version of NixOS without having to get bogged down in different versions the same way you have with rolling releases.

See how the download liveslak dot org looks like and how https://nixos.org/download/ looks with it's options when a developer or other user just wants to get started regardless of the versions available, because it's possible to have one image with default desktop environments ot default software as seen on other distros but that's another topic.

Certainl yes, it would cut down time in the simplest way when you have to manually add the name and some of us know of admins that barely use Git let alone GitHub then GitHub Actions, you get the gist. Autotmations(maybe offline AI like CoPilot & FydeOS) run easier from flat links and files URLs when you can definitely get the rhythm going! ;-)

Sorry I have to rephrase my answer. Having a simple download link would be a good option, though this is something we have to involve @NixOS/infra with.

I disagree with the simplicity of the slackware site though. It presents you with a wall of text. Our site clearly labels and explains all choices you have.

Seems more like a presentation thing, i.e. for marketing, not infra, if I understand the question right.

Slackware is just a distro, I think, but on nixos.org I don't think you can decide for the user whether they want Nix or NixOS, etc. As for the ISOs, we did reduce the count now since 25.05 – they contain two kernel versions and the graphical one has both KDE/Plasma and GNOME (instead of each combination separately).

Yeah, A. It's not exactly IRC but I don't leave people hanging and holding out unless they didn't know that when I said Nix on chat I meant also NixOS not just every other *Nix like OS.(## freenode #OpenSolaris/OpenIndiana & #FreeBSD). Maybe they caught up with that in hindsight because I'm on mobile being mobile things just come together when you stay engaged with active content even if you are passive but informed. You see and you know that most of the offline AI is popular in Eastern distros that are forks of ChromeOS and Debian derivatives. Automation is standalone since the days of .BAK, .BAT, .DAT files which are really like plain text CSV files, maybe for me automating via powershell for gaming with Abandonware will make it more practical for offices with legacy software, maybe even Xenix/DOS programs which would only make sense on a IBM typewriter into the age of AI enhanced terminals, with shell plugins & terminal apps like Warp and CoPilot. Now you have standalone applications developed via tools such as N8N.io not just IFTTT, Atoti(Python), Automate.io, Freeboard, Huginn, Mozilla WebThings, Node-RED, Zapier and so on you can broaden your idea of what you can do with some more command line magic and plenty of imagination when you factor in things such as Blockchain & Web3, as some of us don't like having our pipes and sites flooded with constant updates unless they build value like opensource channels do! From just one URL pointing at a sh file or iso!

This is just a backgroud I've been observing for awhile since the project started, there was less bandwidth to go about versus time but the services provided within make almost anything possible except for disappearing workstations with alot maybe almost everything going to the cloud and vibing out developer or project autonomy by getting things mixed up, maybe being forced to use a Mac but it's better than nothing, this isn't focus shifting, you can decide slowly but surely what you want and when it can be done to keep the conversation open without pointing to any specific resource in the project. As such I don't expect anyone to do anything just because as a single user instance I can do it on demand to any possible specification because opensource affords it even if it means addressing dependency hell which is not the same as deploying python on NixOS or making it possibly work on BSD. For an open mind well practiced anything is possible. The declarative Nix environment with its good content, is great for design by contract with pools of community, expert, generative models driven by formal requirements, specifications, verification or otherwise in plain language. Visual or in text - especially satisfying dependencies by naming inputs possibly automating this process because Nix doesn't provide a GUI wizard environment but who exactly needs that, we have RAD, rapid prototyping and visual modelling to make system integration a doddle, dead simple, using any application of machine learning, plug and play is possible when they(users) know what it is they want to plug and play! It definitely helps when links stay available, constant and persistent especially starting at #localhost possibly serverless without counting the outside web. So it also depends on how much time one can spend developing something in reality, it's not a lot. You could just add Deepin desktop with it's core and featured apps including offline AI, automations, cron jobs to see the tip of the iceberg. All which are "to each his own", but it's a must to have a serverless stack within the OS to make this torture free without endless enhanced SaaS captcha pay walls unless it's corporate. It would be interesting to see learning NixOS could be made more interactive but offline first(there's nothing wrong with YouTube tutorials or documentation) then dynamic later? By using a common tool such as PostgreSQL with it's extensions or layers for many types of data structures, data types such as key value stores, Graph Databases which might be less costly than asking everyone who doesn't know Blockchain Operating Systems or Blockchain Stacks, flakes, GraphQL, Multimedia CMS, Object Stores, NoSQL, Riak, SemanticWeb, SpacetimeDB or Web3 when applications need constant updating like the platforms they're on, it's a must to avoid dilution or scope creep but staying on target. Talking to someone to make them use Nix or NixOS is just like talking about any of the above-named and listed, just because I use it is enough. Until the need arises to do something in workflows, isolating live production data or linked data, we are on the topic of sustaining service availability and discovery. Giving autonomy and control between a Web 2.0 then moving past it with or without all the artificial aids available? Nix is quite capable and portable. So yes to browsers outside the conversations developers are saying now are always saying "now is the best time to be alive!". Common IDEs give the highest availability of plugins, which is ok for software architects and devs who are one individual even if it’s a team maybe organisations, there's enough in the whole PostgreSQL ecosystem to make mashups for serverless or serverless JAMStack use cases with static site generators already in use all over the web including Nix userland. Within NixOS, this looks like a long-term goal to take users from aware to making them empowered by apps and packages within repositories or scripting capabilities even in pure text, NixOS/Infra, by helpful suggestions just like tips to start with then gradually combining online and offline AIs or automations by necessity whenever that happens! Nix can make that easier given time. NixOS on the other hand I can define anything at localhost or on my own network isolated from the public to make that link a single resource deployed on a LAN mirror rather than WAN(maybe intranet). I know of people such as myself that always rollout local repository whenever we start developing or at least testing.
