I agree with most of the changes besides maybe the jaunting in soft crit one, also it might be worth making the automatic low light level machine breaking be a medium cooldown high AOE action instead, although I DO like the idea of it giving an actual downside to getting the light eater implanted as crew |
EDIT: It now triggers for non-nightmares as well. |
If this PR in question was active via TM when I played yesterday, augmentation surgery (the normal limbs into robo ones) still seems to make nightmares go into pain shock |
I hate this place. Also complain to borbop about that one, this has TRAIT_NO_PAIN_EFFECTS so if that's broken, it's not my fault and I don't want to deal with it right now. |
About The Pull Request
Ports #77903 and #82689
INTENTIONALLY DOES NOT PORT #80300 (so you can counter them with lasers, which are much rarer here than on base tg)
Adds a new threshold to the nightmare species at a lumcount of 0.5. (0.2 is the damage threshold)
When below this threshold, but above the damage threshold, their light eater kills nearby dim lights automatically.
This has a radius of 2 tiles and works even while in jaunt. It ignores light fixtures unless they're in low power mode.
This does not affect flashlights, hardhats, flares, glowsticks, candles, etc. as they are too bright for it to trigger.
It's also limited to the view of the nightmare, so they won't shut off lights through walls while in maints.
The biggest balance implication of this is that nightmares can now break low power lighting.
This means breaking APCs is actually worth it now and doesn't just do practically fuckall like before.
Additionally, you can now force open unpowered airlocks and windoors using the light eater similarly to a crowbar.
Unlike the changeling arm blade, it doesn't work on powered ones at all. (it also works on firelocks even if powered)
Also makes nightmares not experience pain as they're immune to most similar things anyway.
Just kinda sucks for an extradimensional darkness monster to go into paincrit and shock.
To go along with the pain fix, they now heal wounds over time as well. Not quickly, though.
But enough to fix a couple broken bones if they get back into the darkness.
This is not applied to regular shadowpeople.
And, finally, makes nightmares able to jaunt while downed. Not in hardcrit or while unconscious, though.
This prevents just rushing them into softcrit before they can react and allows them to heal up way easier.
Keep in mind nightmares heal much faster while jaunting.
This PR is tested.
Why It's Good For The Game
It prevents every single goddamn thing in the game from consoles to air alarms to APCs to fire alarms from hurting you.
Like, it just sucks. Even after breaking the APC in a room, the room is still a goddamn minefield of random shitty lights.
A lot of these lights are also very hard to spot and practically impossible to shut off mid-fight.
Additionally, I've had an issue where I've only hit an APC once to shut off it's light.
People now assume I'm breaking APCs and think I'm valid. Even though I just hit it once.
So, yep. Can't even fucking move in maints without validing yourself. It sucks ass.
And when you do decide to break APCs and valid yourself to the entire crew, it needs a good reward.
Now it has one. You get to jaunt through the room and shut off every goddamn low power light in view.
ALL OF THEM WILL TURN TO DUST. DARKNESS FOR ALL.
It also looks really cool when a dimly lit room suddenly goes fully dark as the nightmare enters it.
Also, being able to jaunt while in softcrit is so you can crawl into the darkness to escape.
Right now it doesn't matter if you're in the middle of dark maintenance. If you get critted, you just lose.
Wounds are also ass to fix when getting the supplies for it requires tiding medical.
In my experience sec starts hard camping any area you're seen in for more than 2s.
So reliably getting your wounds healed is very difficult to say the least.
Door opening adds consistency between this and the changeling arm blade.
It's also generally just a good bit of utility for them since they break APCs so often.
