Reproduction:

While playing as an ashwalker, I tried to wash some hairless hide (obtained from a goliath by cutting the hair off its plates with a knife) in the only water source we had available, a water pond. This did not work, for the item never changed in description nor appearance. If I had to guess at the cause, I believe its because a pond is treated like a sink and may be attempting to clean the hairless hide of gunk rather than washing it into a new item.

Using one of the wooden buckets that are also available to the ashwalkers would solve this.
