Guidelines

  • I have searched the issue tracker for open and closed issues that are similar to the feature request I want to file, without success.
  • I have searched the documentation for information that matches the description of the feature request I want to file, without success.
  • This issue contains only one feature request.

Problem Description

I have >1000 subscriptions on various profiles. When I try to import them, FreeTube briefly pops up a message saying "one or more subscriptions failed to be imported". But it doesn't say which ones, or provide any means to find out. It is not practical for me to look at every subscription and compare it with the list to find out. It's important to me that I don't lose subscriptions.

By the way, I did notice one that didn't import, and was able to subscribe to the channel manually within FreeTube, so the error is not caused by a missing channel.

Proposed Solution

FreeTube should pop up a text box with a list of subscriptions that it failed to import, so that the list can be copied and pasted elsewhere to resolve the problem.

Please don't just pop it up in a dialog that can't be copied. It might have hundreds of entries to deal with!

FreeTube should also explain why it can't import a subscription, if possible.

Alternatives Considered

I did check to see if running FreeTube from the command line might cause it to print error messages on stdout. It didn't. That would be a workaround that could be developed and released more quickly, rather than popping up a text box.

@ChunkyProgrammer could #2283 be broken?

@ChunkyProgrammer could #2283 be broken?

Just to be clear, at least some missing subscription I have spotted by hand are not deleted channels.

Also, it's not my intention to file a bug about subscriptions not working, but to ask that subscriptions lost for any reason are reported for action. (Even deleted ones would be good to know.)

Thanks!

@efb4f5ff-1298-471a-8973-3d47447115dc #2283 is not related to importing. It only shows the channel if you are already subscribed to them and there's an error. This issue should be fixed by this PR, however #4340
