I heard from @orta that the reason he built gh-inspector (which is used to search GitHub issues when a crash occurs, to help the user find the solution) is because of issues like this. This single bug led to a big change in the way CocoaPods handles crashes, a blog post detailing why, the thought process, and feelings associated with the bug and users could be really cool.
