I am not sure which one triggered this, but here is a suspect list:

Platform support  --->
      [*] Sony PS3
            PS3 Platform Options  --->
                        [*] PS3 Advanced configuration options

                        <*> PS3 Logical Performance Monitor support
                        <*> PS3 Storage Manager Driver

                        <*> PS3 isolated SPU file system
                        <*> PS3 isolated SPU loader file system
                        <*> PS3 LV1 Call Driver
                        [*] PS3 udbg output via UDP broadcasts on Ethernet
                        [ ] PS3 udbg output via LV1 console

I remember trying to change all the things enabled here and which also can be modules to actually be modules. This resulted in a kernel that could not boot at all. I'm pretty sure it was not bootable because otherwise it'd proceed to start ps3fb and ps3gelic and respond to pings and ssh. I'll run a trial and error and see which one is it.
