Feature Request: Switch keyboard layout per tab

Not an issue, just a feature request, to be able to switch to different language per tab, the "Separate language for each tab" setting in TabLang. I am an old TabLang user (I still use it with Waterfox), and this was the most useful feature for me, the only one I used really. Key Layout Auto Switch is great, but no matter how you set up the rules, you will run into problems that did not exist with TabLang. For instance, how can you google in English in one tab and in some other language in another tab? I tried the workaround of searching in google.com in the one tab and in google.gr, for instance, for Greek, in the other tab, but this will switch your language to Greek every time you go to google.gr, and this may not always be what you want. I am a translator, and the "Separate language for each tab" setting would really be a lifesaver.

Unfortunately tabs do not expose a unique ID (outside the browser) that can be used for tracking them like this.

From your description, I think your best bet would be to use the "Previously visited web pages" rule to be "Restore the last used keyboard layout for the page", and then not set a domain rule for google.com. Then, once you have switched keyboard in a tab manually it will restore that same keyboard when you return to that tab, as the tab will still be showing the same URL.

The only complication comes when you have two tabs with the same URL open at once. In this case KeyLayoutAutoSwitch will apply the same language to both, as it isn't possible to distinguish between them.

I was looking at the acc.ahk library (Microsoft Active Accessibility) for AutoHotKey (to see if I could implement this), and if I am not mistaken, it seems that they do. You can see it with AccViewer.ahk. It gives you a path in the form of 4.30.1.5 (where 5 is the tab number), that lets you access it through the functions of the acc.ahk library. Sorry, but this is not an ID, it just a path. If a tab is opened or closed, then all the other numbers to the right of it would change, as they just represent the order of the currently visible tabs. Also note that whenever you re-query for the tabs (if you re-run the AccViewer for example), then the currently active tab is always .1, meaning other tabs get reordered numbers too.

It can be used to refer to a tab in the short term, but is not useful as a medium or long term identifier.

As far as I can see, the numbers correspond always to the order of the tabs and they do not change depending on their focus status, but you are right in that they will change if you open or close a tab. However this is not a problem in my case because I have always open 9 tabs with the same urls. Anyway, thanks for looking into this. I will try to implement your suggestion and see how it goes. And thanks for TabLang, it was great while it lasted :-)
