putting a color table in a location other than .visit?

Hi.  I am calling VisIt (-cli -nowin test.py) from a php script invoked
by a Web browser, i.e., the user is www, and www has no home
directory, so no .visit directory.  The Web server is running Mac OS.

I have a color map that I want to use.  Running on my own machine,
I export the new color map and it gets saved in my .visit directory.

The Help article for 'Exporting a color table' says that on a Windows
system, 'look for the color table file in the directory in which VisIt
was installed'.

Where is the color table file for Linux distributions? Can I add my
*.ct file to it?

If not, is there a way to create and use a color table in a Python
script?

As I test, I tried setting HOME to a random directory, and then put
the color table file in that directory.  I ran VisIt with
env HOME=/path/to/random/directory -cli -nowin -test.py,
but I got the error message:
> VisIt: Error - Molecule:  There is no color table named 'timelevels'.
> You need to specify the name of a valid color table.
> VisIt: Message - Rendering window 1...
> VisIt: Error - Scalable Render Request Failed:

Hi Janet,

I think this is not easy.  I ran into a similar problem and had no good
answer.  The only way I can think of is to build a config file with the
color table and then restore that config file.

So:
1) Have an interactive session of VisIt on your local machine where all you
do is build the new color table.
2) Save your settings.  This will store the configs as '~/.visit/config'
3) Copy that config file into the remote machine, in the same directory as
test.py.  Renamed it to something like file.config
4) Add '-config file.config' to your invocation 'visit -cli -nowin -config
file.config -s  test.py'

Hi, Hank.  Thanks.  I can try this.

Gunther pointed out that I had to put the *.ct file in the newly
created (by redefining HOME) .visit directory.  After I moved
the *.ct file there, and ran VisIt as described below, then
VisIt found the color table.
