BUILD SUCCESS But no Tests were picked to run : Tests run: Failures: 0, Errors: 0, Skipped: 0, Time elapsed: 0.401 s -- in TestSuite

I know this is a very well known question, which is answered many number of times. After going through all of them, I am still have to run with my issue to the forum. PLEASE HELP.

• I was running this project since almost 1.5 years. Just yesterday, before closing for the day I ran the automation scrip multiple times with no issue. I started having this strange issue today. I hope monsters are not the cause for this issue :)

• I made sure and checked that

      1. My test class has **no main method**.
      2. My test method has **public qualifier**
      3. My test method has **no return parameter.**
      4. Test annotation is from **TestNG** framework, **not JUnit**.
      5. test tag in xml config file has **enabled="true"**
      6. Using TestNG version 7.11.0
      7. Whenever I try to give a wrong Java file path, TestNG complains that it is not able to find it, meaning currently, it is having classpath correctly specified.
  

Here is the skeletal outline of my script.

Pls share your surefire configuration.

You should have referenced your suite file in it or your test class name should match surefire naming pattern ( *Test, *Testcase etc. you can get accurate details from the surefire documentation )

Also, please get rid of io.github.bonigarcia:webdrivermanager as a dependency, becaus eyou dont need this anymore. This capability has been baked into Selenium 4.x

Appreciate your detailed analysis and help on this 'nutty' issue. I was staring at it with out a clue.
I matched Selenium-java client v.4.28 with Appium-java client v9.4.0 as mentioned in the compatibility matrix.
I can't get the TestNG recognize the annotations inserted in the test class yet.
**What I am missing...?**
The best thing I can learn from you is how to enable log messages by TestNG to the console or any other place by using SLF4J on top of LOG4J2. so that I can continue debugging myself.

I would like to implement your suggestions and resolve my issue.

• As it was suggested, I removed the dependency of webdrivermanager
• I removed dependencies to all the log jar files and replaced them with simply one-SLF4J-simple
• I ran the test with log message with a level of DEBUG
• Captured the console output in to the same file maven_command_run_console_output.txt, which is attached below.
• I ran the test class with testSuite xml file(supplying the TestNG parameters) from the command prompt and attached is the output on the terminal. Essentially the same status.

• Still, the reason for TestNG to glide through the test suite with out hitting any @test annotations is unclear/unknown

@vnuta9 - You have a classpath conflict and I believe I shared information in terms of how to fix them as well. You are using a log4j configuration file which I dont know what its settings look like.

I would suggest that you get rid of all log4j dependencies in your pom file and just add slf4j simple. Dont forget to increase your verbose level to 2 or higher in your <suite> file.

There is nothing further that can be done from TestNG perspective. I am not sure what is more expected from TestNG here. Y

UPDATE:

Following the suggestion that Selenium dependency is no more required because Appium java client already has it added as a transitive dependency and it will always be compatible.

After removing the dependency to selenium-java v.4.28, the program flow is recognizing the TestNG annotations and running fine.

Wow ! What a roller coaster ride on. this issue … for one complete week, racking my brain (which is non existing... :) )

Now, this is never a TestNG issue
