I am willing to contribute to developing a quarto template for the Journal of Kinesiology and Wellness. I have the latex file ready.

I do not have experience as a developer, but with some guidance, I will work hard to get it done.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello @drfurtado ! Thanks for considering making a new template to use with Quarto !

This repo has been made to help create an extension format. You can start by using this Github template to start or use the new quarto create extension journal to help get the scaffolded project

Then documentation is at https://quarto.org/docs/extensions/

More pratically

  • First thing will be, based on our LaTeX template to modify the LaTeX partials in Quarto. With Quarto, we specifically allow to tweak only part of the default LaTeX template to ease modification and keep most of Quarto feature. You could also pass a whole custom template but that is not best usage. Those partials are usual Pandoc's template.
  • For authors part, Quarto offers a specific parsing of metadata to be used in templates, that should allow most of the flexibility that Journal's template requires
  • For quarto to recognize your format, you need to fill the _extension.yml as shown in quick start example. You can pass default values for you PDF format, as well as any resources.
  • Than depending on the complexity of your journal's template and its feature, you'll need filters or/and shortcodes that would provide more feature to your document for Markdown syntax to your LaTeX template.

Please give it a try, and ping me in your repo if you need any help.

Hope this helps gets started

Sorry, this is beyond my basic knowledge of latex and Quarto.
I would love to get help from the Quarto community on this matter.
The JKW is a small not-for-profit journal, but we could hire a freelancer to create a repo with the Quarto template based on our latex template.
Any help directing to potential collaborators would be greatly appreciated.

Oh I see - sorry I misunderstood.

I added a label to make this more clear. Hopefully people will pass by. You can also throw then idea on twitter or Mastodon.

I'll keep this in the list of ideas for when I can work more on creating new format. Not very soon unfortunately.

Please place this on your to-do list. Having a template in Quarto will significantly expedite the process of editing papers and allow authors to use the repo for submissions.
Also, Quarto's html output is awesome.
Greatly appreciated.

From experience on R package rticles, the real issue is maintaining a format - this is best done by users of the formats or people who knows the template well and what they want in it.

Though, we'll consider it when we can dedicate time to new templates. Thanks

Thanks for considering it. If added, I can volunteer to maintain it.
