Copilot edits missing

It worked fine till yesterday, suddenly It has disappeared from my VScode there is only chat option

Hey! @sanjayyalla

If you're experiencing this issue, try the following steps to resolve it:

1. Restart VS Code – Close and reopen VS Code to see if the extension reloads.
2. Check Extension Status – Go to Extensions (Ctrl+Shift+X) and make sure the extension is installed and enabled.
3. Sign in to GitHub – Open a new terminal in VS Code and run:

   gh auth login
   

Sign in with the account related to copilot! Hope it helps!

After a long struggle this one worked!

Step 1: Uninstall GitHub Copilot & GitHub Copilot Chat

1. Open Visual Studio Code.
2. Press Ctrl + Shift + X to open the Extensions panel.
3. In the search bar, type "GitHub Copilot".
4. Click the gear icon (⚙️) next to "GitHub Copilot" and click "Uninstall".
5. Repeat the same steps for "GitHub Copilot Chat".

Step 2: Delete Copilot Extension Folders

1. Close VS Code completely.
2. Open File Explorer and navigate to the following path:

   C:\Users\<your_username>\.vscode\extensions
   

3. Delete any folders starting with:
   • github.copilot-
   • github.copilot-chat-

Step 3: Delete Copilot Global Storage & Cached Data

1. Open the following folder:

   C:\Users\<your_username>\AppData\Roaming\Code\User
   

2. Open the file named settings.json and remove any lines that contain:
   "github.copilot..."
3. If you modified it before, open keybindings.json and remove any Copilot-related entries.
4. Navigate to:

   C:\Users\<your_username>\AppData\Roaming\Code\User\globalStorage
   

   Delete the folder(s) starting with:
   • github.copilot
   • github.copilot-chat
5. Now go to:

   C:\Users\<your_username>\AppData\Roaming\Code\Cache
   

   Delete any folders or files that include "copilot" in the name.
6. Then go to:

   C:\Users\<your_username>\AppData\Roaming\Code\CachedExtensions
   

   Delete any folders or files starting with "github.copilot".

Step 4: Clear Workspace Storage

1. Navigate to:

   C:\Users\<your_username>\AppData\Roaming\Code\User\workspaceStorage
   

2. Delete all the contents inside this folder. This is safe — it only stores temporary workspace state.

Step 5: Delete Extension State Backups

1. Go to:

   C:\Users\<your_username>\AppData\Roaming\Code\User\globalStorage
   

2. Delete the folder(s):
   • github.copilot
   • github.copilot-chat

Step 6: Delete Service Worker / Cached Web Extensions

1. Navigate to:

   C:\Users\<your_username>\AppData\Roaming\Code\Service Worker
   

2. Delete all contents in this folder. It holds cached UI and background scripts.

Step 7: Remove Cached GitHub Authentication Tokens (Optional)

1. Navigate to:

   C:\Users\<your_username>\AppData\Roaming\Code\User\globalStorage
   

2. Delete the file:
   state.vscdb

Alternatively:

• Open VS Code.
• Press Ctrl + Shift + P to open the Command Palette.
• Type: Developer: Open Settings Sync Keychain
• Delete any GitHub or Copilot authentication entries.

After the last update the "edits" option has moved to the bottom of the chat text-area. Left side of the model dropdown. You can now chose chat, edit or agent.

Ikr it did appear in the place that you are mentioning but out of curiosity I clicked on hide and it disappeared forever. There was no option to make it reappear i tried everything. At last i had to delete every single file related to copilot and reinstall it again to make it appear. Reinstalling normally didn't help.
