Can't access a secret gist even with the link

A classmate of mine is trying to share a secret gist with me so we can work on some code together, and I can't seem to open it no matter what I do. I've even gone so far as to take his PC, make a gist, and then message myself the link on whatsapp to make sure it's correct and it still won't open on my PC. What gives?

Sounds frustrating! It could be a permission issue, have your classmate checked if the gist is private? I had a similar headache once while looking up Pearl Lemon Commercial repairs, and it turned out to be a simple access setting.

I'm running into the same issue. This has always worked in the past. The secret gist isn't currently accessible with any account other than the one I created it with. Also not accessible from a logged out browser.

I'm pretty sure it's not an access issue. I believe he's from Pakistan (one of the middle eastern countries), and the email he used may have been set to that region will that cause issues? Both of us are in Hong Kong at the moment. I know Github's bound by US Export Laws, I just don't know if / how it would affect anyone here.
