Environment:

  • MEGA app Version(s): 15.3
  • OS Version(s): Android 15
  • Devices/Simulators: Pixel 8

Describe the bug

Folder syncs stop syncing if I don't manually open the app for a few days. If I manually open the app, the sync resumes. Sometimes, restarting the phone also makes the sync resume (without manually opening the app), but not always. No warning is shown to the user. Camera uploads are not affected.

I have already enabled unrestricted background usage. It seems to improve things a bit, meaning that background sync survives for longer, but it stops working anyway after a few days.

Below you see that my syncs have stopped working for 3 weeks.

This is obviously very bad -- background sync should work reliably. This issue could result in data loss for the user (think of backups). I've never had similar issues with other apps running tasks in the background, such as FolderSync, Tasker, and Termux (via termux-job-scheduler).

Reproduction Steps

  1. Create a new folder sync
  2. Do not open the app for a few days

Expected behavior

Folder syncs should work in the background indefinitely, just like Camera uploads do (and like other apps, such as FolderSync).
