I’m wondering if there is interest in ever making harf mode the default? I’m aware of the inadequate handling of hyphenated text, but lets suppose that someone manages to fix this in a satisfactory way, would luaotfload swap the default mode or are there any other blockers or changing the default is not on the table at all?
I still get the occasional issue about something not working in LuaTeX which works in harf mode but users are either not aware of the existence of harf mode, or think it is already the default, or are afraid to use it because there read somewhere that is not good for European scripts. So if there is a clear path in making harf mode the default, I might be interested in working towards it at some point in the future.

Path for making harf mode the default?
Is there a potential for making harf mode the default?

👍 My two cents. IMO, it would be great switching to harf mode if (1) hyphenated text is fixed, and (2) it can read fea files (or an alternative method).
