Installing GDL on Windows

I am an expert IDL user, but beyond that, I am not particularly PC savvy. Is is possible for me to install GDL on a PC, and then run with it? I am particularly interested in the GDL development environment. Is there an installation procedure that I could follow, assuming that I am starting with a brand new computer? Or, possibly, a procedure that I could give to a consultant to follow? (I can hire a lot of help for the price of an IDL license!) Thanks for your help.

Thank you very much for your quick reply. Of course, I have read the README file associated with the installation, but am lacking several pieces of information. For example, the mandatory and optional libraries: do I need to find and instal those before installing GDL? Or does this happen as part of the GDL install? I am accustomed to seeing an executable that does the instal; double-click on the install icon, etc. In the downloaded folder, gdl-v1.1.2_testing2.tar.gz, I see INSTALL.CMake. Is that the installation script? I am meant to compile the program after the install? If so, then I would need to have a C++ compiler, correct? If you do not have the bandwidth to deal with a nub such as myself, I completely understand. Thanks, Scott Acton.

OK, I had much more luck finding a .exe file and installing it. It launches fine. I am still dealing with a couple of problems, but outside of the scope of this question. Thanks for your help.
