Only tried this on insider fast, but Shopify's theme kit works great (https://shopify.github.io/themekit/).

My whole Shopify dev environment worked well, this includes the following npm modules:

node-sass(latest)
postcss-cli (v2.6)
webpack(v2.2.1)

I'd assume most of these won't work on the anniversary update because they all watch files for changes.
