Field layout designer HUD to the side vs on top

I noticed that, in the very latest versions, the field selector HUD in field layout designers is positioned on top of the current tab. Originally (at least till 5.6.0.2) it was on the side:

I'I have two problems with this:

1. The HUD hides the current tab's fields, adding to the congitive load of the user that now has to remember the existing fields.
2. It's not anymore possible to drag fields on the tab, so placing fields in specific positions requires multiple steps.

I'm sure there was a reason behind this change, but still feel it's worth mentioning the above.

Thanks for pointing that out! I just adjusted the HUD so it never opens to the top of the button; and now prefers to open to the right, then bottom, then left, depending on the available space. (3eca75d)
