Is this how rethink DNS works? And is rethink DNS discontinued with no updates in 2025 despite bugs and issues?

Sometimes it doesn't work, when it work, it doesn't pauses. If it pauses, it doesn't start. Also, crashes in background despite allowed to run in background and no battery killer especially using a little bit heavy apps like Reddit, social media, video players or browsers for long.

Not a device specific issue but generally same everywhere.

Tried and using on 3 android versions namely Android 15, 14 and 9.

I hope Mozilla is using funds for app improvement not for activism which doesn't help me at all.

Rethink is an incredibly complicated piece of software and it has acquired cruft over the years given its expansive feature set and the way those features interact with each other. That, and Rethink has to be nearly running always bugfree is a tall ask, but one we are determined to meet. This is one reason why, after a string of v055 releases in quick succession, we took a backseat to prioritise stability and robustness, which has meant extensive testing, rich bug reports, component rewrites, and bug fixing. All of this takes time.

It is also true that we don't ship nearly fast enough, as in release incremental changes more often. Something we intend to fix once v055 series is done and we move onto v056, which has been delayed by a year, now.

The good folks at Moz incubated Rethink in July 2020 and help fund the initial version with a £12k grant. They don't support the project in an ongoing basis.

Not discontinued. Just that the next version is a big overhaul of the underlying network engine, which is taking way more time than expected to stabilize for a public release. That and simply living means life brings with it its own priorities.
