FAQ

Do I need CFW?
Yes, CFW is required for any save editing or live editing.

Can I use this on SXOS?
Some people have figured out how to get it to run sys-modules. We don't provide any technical support for SXOS so you have to figure it out yourself.

Should I use the stable builds or the bleeding edge builds?
Stable builds are recommended for most users. Bleeding edge builds are only for experienced users who want to test the latest commits and are able to troubleshoot errors.

How do PKHeX-Plugins work?
The plugins provided in this repository make use of PKHeX's IPlugin interface to sideload our custom code. PKHeX looks for provided plugins and loads them when the program is launched. These plugins provide various extra features that base PKHeX does not include.

How does Auto-Legality Mod work?
PKHeX provides numerous APIs for checking legality:

  • Searching PKHeX's internal encounter database for encounters that match specifications
  • Generating a PKM from an encounter template

With this plugin, we can find an encounter and generate a battle-ready PKM with just a ShowdownSet template! See this page for more details on how ALM works.

Troubleshooting

PKHeX doesn't open after installing the plugins.
PKHeX opens but the icon is not blue.
Make sure that you have unblocked both DLLs. Go back to basic installation of PKHeX-Plugins if you do not know how to do this.

"Legalize Active Pokémon" is not working.
Auto-Legality Mod does not create legal sets for you; it takes the bare minimum information from a Showdown set and adds extra game data to make the Pokémon legal in game. This means that you must ensure that the Pokémon you are trying to legalize has appropriate basic information. Recommendation is to start with Import Showdown Set first by following the Getting Started with Auto-Legality Mod page.

I am having an error like "Field not found" or "Method not found" every time I try to import a set.
Your PKHeX and PKHeX-Plugins are mismatched. Please ensure that you are on the stable builds. Reinstall in an empty folder using the Installing PKHeX-Plugins page. Move the trainers folder from your old PKHeX directory and discard the rest.

I can't legalize a newly released Pokémon.
The Pokémon must first be legal in base PKHeX. Normally, Wonder Cards are bundled into stable releases.

  • If it is a new event Pokémon, wait until a Wonder Card is released on Project Pokémon Event Gallery or the Github repository
  • Create an mgdb folder in the same directory as PKHeX.exe and put new Wonder Cards inside.
  • If it is not an event Pokémon, this may not be possible on the latest stable build.
  • A Wonder Card is NOT a pk8 file; putting pk8 files into this directory will not work.
  • Restart PKHeX afterwards.

I am seeing red boxes when I connect with LiveHex.

  • On Switch, this means your RAM is displaced. This is usually because of Edizon's cheat engine (even if no cheats are loaded), Tesla, or Capturesight. You can temporarily disable all Atmosphère cheats by holding L while booting up the game. Once you have made those changes, reboot your Switch and try again.
  • On 3DS, this may simply be because NTR is sluggish. Change the box back and forth until the problem resolves.

When I click "Connect", the program freezes or I get an error about a connection attempt failing.

There is a problem with your connection setup. Ensure that:

  1. You have properly installed sys-botbase or NTR correctly (this includes putting the files in the right place and restarting your console).
  2. Your IP is correct (check Homebrew Menu and press Y).
  3. Your port is 6000 on Switch or 8000 for 3DS (Do not change this!)
  4. Your PC is on the same network as your console.
  5. You are online in-game. If you are on Switch, you can use LAN mode run ldn_mitm.
  6. Your console is close enough to your router to reduce Wi-Fi errors.

I am getting bad eggs while using sys-botbase version 1.3, 1.4, or 1.5.
The currently recommended version of sys-botbase is version 1.6. Previous versions contain a bug that is known to cause bad eggs. Remember to restart your Switch after installing a sysmodule.
