YouTube Music

Feature description

Currently, when the "Override Download Action" option is enabled, users must first play a song before they can download it. This proposal improves the user experience by allowing the download action to directly trigger the preferred external downloader from the overflow menu (three-dot menu)—without requiring the user to play the song first.

With this feature, when the override download action is enabled:

  • Pressing the download button from the three-dot menu on the homepage or any list will immediately trigger the download using the preferred external downloader.

  • Users will no longer need to open or play the music before downloading it.

Motivation

Right now, that download button does nothing when pressed. The proposed feature means:
Faster Downloads: Eliminates unnecessary steps, allowing users to quickly download songs.

This enhancement will streamline the download process, making YouTube Music more efficient and user-friendly.
