Tinkering:

The default .exe(ShadowVault.exe) opening the file explorer is a bit of a mystery to me, but the game also comes with another .exe(shadowvaultzoom.exe) that works fine and the game launches when using it.

Proton has sound issues by default: The volume seems to increase(?) at the title screen the longer it plays, with some mixing issues. This is presumably DirectSound related.

I'm unsure if I'm allowed to link to DSOAL here but it is a fully open source(GPL) reimplementation of DirectSound based upon OpenAL Soft. Placing the DLLs from this with the dsound.dll override fixed the issue. There appears to be a similar issue mentioning DSOAL(#372) specifically

Game seems to work fine with these tinkerings. I hope this may assist anyone fixing the issues or who just wants to play the game.
