+* Publishing is on a continuum with sharing. Often, early on in a research project you will share with your advisor and/or collaborators. Later perhaps you share with more collaborators, or with colleagues whose opinions you value. Publishing in essence is sharing with the scientific community at large, and with the public.
+* Many assumptions you can make about shared context and meta-information when sharing with close collaborators or an advisor won't apply anymore when sharing with the scientific community at large.
