Access motion over internet

Hi all,

any suggestions how to access motion sercurely over the internet with secure authentication? Just using "stream_auth_method" and "stream_authentication" in motion.conf doesn't feel right. Any suggestions are highly appreciated.

Use stream_tls and webcontrol_tls as well as stream_authentication and webcontrol_authentication

You can also add/adjust the following configuration in Motion to deter those attempting to break in:

webcontrol_lock_attempt

    Values: Integer | Default: 3
    Number of permitted attempts to log in before triggering lockout. 

webcontrol_lock_minutes

    Values: Integer | Default: 10
    Number of minutes that the IP will be locked out from further attempts to log in. 

webcontrol_lock_script

    Values: String | Default: Not Defined
    Script to execute when a lockout has been triggered. Two additional parameters are passed to this script when executed. The number of times the userid failed as well as the IP address attempting to log in. 

And if the logs show any IP being persistent, you can also add and configure fail2ban in order to stop them from any other open ports on your computer. (This example was for Motionplus but it can also be applied to Motion)
