Testmerges: #3836 (this PR is causing the problem, reverting the PR will bring back the old cooking system, which functionally, had no issues.)
Reproduction:
Create a shepherds pie / Big race pan / anything that can be cut into multiple peices
Use the 'Radial menu' system to cut the thing by right clicking it with an empty hand with a knife near by
You only get one piece.
This is a genuine issue and the radial system does NOT work with cutting food items. Please atleast address this issue before closing this.
This was closed before because the food system supposedly works—I’m just misunderstanding it. That’s fine. But how does it work? Why didn’t the original author of this system include a CL in their PR explaining exactly how to increase food buffs?
The fact is, nobody knows how to use this system. I’ve asked around—on Discord, in-game—nobody knows. Nobody makes food above a quality of 1 because nobody knows how. In my own experiments, even when using the radial menu, crafting by hand, and crafting in bulk (as the PR suggests), nothing changes the food quality from 1.
Regardless of whether this system actually works or not, it is not explained how it works. If I have to do a deep dive into the code just to understand it, then it’s completely inaccessible to the "new players" this server is supposed to be catering to.
I’ve looked at the PR, the changelog, and the code. I still don’t know how it works.
The person who made this PR had a responsibility to tell us how to use it, but they didn’t. That’s why I believe we need to either revert this system or, better yet, have the original author write a CL explaining what it actually does.
Because as it stands, with the lack of information we have, nobody will ever know how to cook properly. The entire ‘Chef’ role will become meaningless. Any buffs from having a chef? You might as well just order a pizza or grab something from a vending machine. The entire benefit of having a chef is to provide small, decent buffs to the entire crew.

You will need to follow to step by step recipes such as this one to utilise this part of the cooking system.
The "easy" crafting menu recipes will always result in food with a quality of 1.
The system works just fine.
Uh oh!
